Dorota Szmulewicz, the oldest sister of Jan Szmulewicz, the rescued of Stankiewicz family. A note by Tadeusz Szmulewicz: “In the lower left corner of the original photograph there is a sign of a photographic studio. The name of the studio is ‘Mazelman, 40 Nalewki’. This indicates that the photograph was taken in Warsaw at Nalewki Street. This part of Warsaw was inhabited mainly by Jews, later it was the centre of a ghetto organized by the Germans. It is probable; Janek told me that they had an aunt in Warsaw who lived at Zamehoffa Street, they visited each other. Zamenhoffa Street was near Nalewki. It is this place that the outbreak of the war in 1939 and the encroachment of the Germans on Warsaw found him in. He could not reach Opole Lubelskie because there was no transport. He took half a bucket of raisins from a broken shop and, living on these raisins, went on foot to Opole Lubelskie. ; Dorota Szmulewicz, die älteste Schwester von Jan Szmulewicz, der Geretten dank die Stankiewicz Familie. Janek (Jan Szmulewicz) erzählte mir, dass eine ihrer Tanten, die sie oft besuchten, in Warschau, in der Zamenhoffastraße, wohnte. Die Zamenhoffastraße war ganz in der Nähe der Nalewkistraße. Janek war auch während des Kriegsausbruchs und des Einmarschs der Deutschen dort. Er konnte nicht nach Opole Lubelskie fahren, es gab keinen Zugverkehr. Mit einem halben Eimer gestohlener Rosinen aus einem eingeschlagenen Schaufenster als Verpflegung, machte er sich zu Fuß auf den Weg nach Opole Lubelskie.
